Peter's legal experience covers over 30 years as a senior solicitor and previously as a partner in a large law firm. He has participated in numerous and significant activities which has required consensus building techniques and the ability to draw both parties toward a mutually satisfactory arrangement. Mr. McKeigan also has a strong background in business administration where he has gained experience in areas of reorganization and strategic planning, implementation of total quality management techniques, performance measures, human resource management and reporting systems.

He serves on the roster, either as an arbitrator or mediator at the request of the Nova Scotia Dept. of Labour and Environment (Minister's List), the Nova Scotia Dept. of Justice for Compensation for Survivors or Institutional Abuse, Canadian Transportation Agency, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, and the Registrar of Condominiums Arbitrators List.

He has completed general, advanced or specialty courses in arbitration, mediation, facilitation, managing public consultation and negotiation. He holds a Certificate in Environmental Management from Technical University of Nova Scotia(DalTech), a Certificate in Negotiation and Conflict Management from Dalhousie Law School and Henson College, a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University and an LLB from Dalhousie Law School. He has been awarded an AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell.
